Charter, as anyone who knows me is likely well aware, SUCK HORSE COCKS. They constantly annoyed the living crap out of me ever since I first signed up for their services. On many occasions, I would have no functioning internet connection for streaks of up to 24 hours at a time, despite repeated calls to tech support and at least four separate on-site visits in the past few weeks alone. (In fact, the same person has been here often enough to comment on small changes in my room's layout.) In all cases, on phone or in person, they eventually concluded either that nothing at all was wrong, or that my connectivity issues were somehow a result of my "bizarre" setup. Nearly every time I revealed all or part of my configuration to Charter's tech support personnel, I was informed of some reason why my connection issues were my problem:
So anyway, earlier this month, I noticed that I'd yet again had no internet connection for about a day or so. I hit trusty ol' speed-dial-nine, worked my way through the all-too-familiar maze of touch-tone menus and crappy voice-recognition auto-assistants, and finally got connected to a human being. I asked if I can has internets kthx, and proceeded to expertly dodge all of their idiot-filtering questions. "Try unplugging the cable modem" — "did that before I called" — "is the cable modem connected directly to the computer" — "how would that solve anything; it's not even showing an upstream connection, so changing what it's plugged into locally won't help" — "there might be an outage in your area" — "nope, the guy two rooms down has a working connection" — and so forth. After having to go through this nonsense two to three times per month for the better part of a year, it starts to feel somewhat like being repeatedly pounded in the face with a meat tenderizer mallet. Of course, I was eventually offered yet another on-site visit. Resulting from this offer, and especially in light of their horrendous track record at doing ANYTHING AT ALL besides wasting my time and money, I politely requested that my bill for the month be redacted, and my service agreement terminated immediately. (In a final act of utter incompetence, after a bit of arguing over what actually constitutes being "connected", Charter gladly refunded me a whole $3, which supposedly covered the $50 I had just paid for the month. Morons.)
Thus, for much of the month, I've had no local internet connection. It took me a while to get around to correcting this situation, but I signed up for Sprint's DSL service. It's much, much, much better... as in no equestrian phalloi. The connection hasn't randomly died or even wavered yet since I plugged in the modem, there's no apparent port throttling, and no retarded NXDOMAIN advertisements. So, yay.
